The Army's Strongest Forces on Their First Overseas Training [Yang Nak-gyu's Defence Club]

Army K2 tanks and K9 self-propelled howitzers, along with tank and artillery units, are conducting joint training exercises in Qatar. The 'Qatar Local Joint Training Unit' held a send-off ceremony at Pyeongtaek Port on the 23rd of last month, then was transported aboard the Navy's Nojeokbong ship, arriving at Doha Port, Qatar, on the 13th of this month. The Al Kharayel Training Center in Qatar, where the Army is conducting the training, is a vast desert training ground owned by the Qatar Armed Forces, measuring 10 km east-west and 33.5 km north-south, making it suitable for long-range firing by tanks and self-propelled howitzers. The training unit conducted terrain reconnaissance and joint tactical discussions with the Qatar military, followed by training exercises including tank maneuver firing, maximum effective range firing, and maximum firing rate exercises for self-propelled howitzers.

The joint training in Qatar will continue until the 27th. This is the first time that the Army's tank and artillery forces have participated in overseas joint training. Four K2 tanks and four K9 self-propelled howitzers were deployed, with over 100 soldiers from the 11th Maneuver Division participating in the training. The Navy's landing ship also sailed to the Middle East for the first time in connection with this training.
