Slight increase again in October
From January this year to the 18th, it was identified that nearly 841 students suffered from deepfake sexual exploitation.
According to the "School Deepfake False Video Damage Status" announced by the Ministry of Education on the 21st, the cumulative number of affected students during this period was counted as 841. The total number of victims within schools, including faculty members, was 877.
This is an increase of 17 affected students compared to the 7th survey conducted on the 18th. In this survey, there were 17 damage reports (9 in middle schools, 8 in high schools) and 16 investigation requests (8 in middle schools, 8 in high schools). These numbers increased by 10 and 6 respectively compared to the previous survey.
The Ministry of Education has been investigating the damage status targeting 17 metropolitan and provincial offices of education after the controversy over the mass distribution of deepfake sexual exploitation materials through Telegram group chats and other means.
The number of victims within schools peaked at 421 on the 6th of last month but dropped to single digits on the 4th of this month. However, it has been increasing again for three consecutive weeks since the 11th.
The cumulative number of damage reports totaled 533 (17 in elementary schools, 224 in middle schools, 292 in high schools). Investigation requests totaled 448 (17 in elementary schools, 195 in middle schools, 236 in high schools). Support for deletion coordination was carried out 241 times.
