Publication of Policy Promotion Materials Highlighting Policy Excellence
Includes Progress and Achievements of the 'Achim Change' Initiative
A policy promotional magazine to widely publicize the excellence and achievements of major educational policies in Busan is making its debut.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has published an educational policy promotional magazine titled ‘Edu 體·仁·智, Busan’ containing the direction and achievements of major educational policies in Busan.
The promotional magazine was created to analyze and verify the excellent policies of the Busan Office of Education and to provide information about their effects to the educational community and citizens of Busan.
Since June, the Office of Education has formed a research team of 10 education experts, including research committee members from the Office’s Educational Policy Research Institute and professors, to prepare the inaugural issue aimed at establishing outstanding and distinctive educational policies in the field.
The inaugural issue includes the background, current status, and achievements of the ‘Morning Change (體仁智)’ policy, which sparked a nationwide morning physical activity trend originating from Busan.
Morning Change, first implemented nationwide by the Busan Office of Education to transform “sleeping classrooms” into “awake classrooms,” is a representative character education program that utilizes morning time before classes to conduct physical activities.
Morning Change received a special grant of 11 billion KRW from the Ministry of Education over the past two years and has attracted nationwide attention, with other metropolitan and provincial offices of education benchmarking the program.
The Busan Office of Education included the educational effects of Morning Change, analyzed based on data, in the inaugural issue of ‘Edu 體·仁·智, Busan’.
According to the analysis, significant changes were observed in students’ PAPS (Physical Activity Promotion System) measurement results before and after the implementation of Morning Change, indicating it helped improve physical fitness. In particular, among middle school students, the number of students achieving first-grade levels in muscle strength, muscular endurance, cardiopulmonary endurance, agility, and flexibility increased.
Additionally, learning attitudes were analyzed to have improved, with enhanced problem-solving skills and self-directed learning abilities.
The Office of Education plans to distribute 8,000 copies of the inaugural issue to schools, education support offices, affiliated institutions, and related organizations. In the future, the policy promotional magazine will be published regularly as research results on major educational policies are finalized.
Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “The Office’s policy research magazine ‘Edu 體·仁·智, Busan’ will greatly help to widely publicize and communicate Busan’s excellent and distinctive policies,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that our leading policies take firm root in school sites.”
Last year, 450 schools (71% of all schools, excluding those with facility construction or other circumstances) participated in Morning Change, and this year, 596 schools, accounting for 94%, joined. The Busan Office of Education plans to fully implement Morning Change in all schools in the Busan area starting next year.
