The Gwangju Foreign Resident Support Center announced on the 21st that it has been providing free flu (influenza) vaccinations since the 20th to foreign residents who find it difficult to visit medical institutions due to communication barriers and work commitments, in preparation for this winter's flu season.
This flu vaccination program was conducted by recruiting 100 foreign workers residing in Gwangju on a first-come, first-served basis, with the support of 100 vaccine doses and vaccination personnel provided by the Korea Industrial Health Association Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk Regional Headquarters, which was established to protect and promote workers' health.
To facilitate smooth communication during the vaccination process, the center deployed interpreters in various languages (English, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Nepali, Khmer, Thai, Mongolian) to provide medical interpretation and translation services, including assistance with filling out medical questionnaires and guidance on vaccination precautions. Additionally, Gwangju Saenghwal-ikkeumi activists, composed of indigenous and migrant residents who launched in July to support foreign residents' settlement, participated as on-site volunteer supporters.
Shin Kyung-gu, director of the Gwangju Foreign Resident Support Center, stated, “The center will continue to make efforts to support the settlement of foreign residents and improve their living convenience by providing various services linked with local community resources.”
