Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that Okjeong Education and Culture Center, newly opened as a district-run sports facility, will begin full-scale operation starting in November.
The district decided to operate the Okjeong Education and Culture Center, located within Okjeong Elementary School, as a district-run sports facility to provide residents with broader opportunities for recreational sports. In June, an agreement for usage permission was signed with Okjeong Elementary School.
Subsequently, remodeling was carried out to improve the facility, and on September 27, an opening ceremony was held to announce its operation as a district-run sports facility.
The Okjeong Education and Culture Center is equipped with a swimming pool (4 lanes), a children's pool, a fitness center, and a golf practice range (10 bays, 2 game rooms). Through the recent remodeling work, the facility has been transformed into a safer and more comfortable space, expected to increase resident satisfaction.
In particular, the center has been designed as a space that can be used by both enrolled students and local residents, which is expected to not only improve the quality of education for students but also provide more diverse sports activity opportunities for residents near Oksu-dong, where sports facilities are lacking.
The Okjeong Education and Culture Center conducted a pilot operation in October and will officially start operation in November by offering a total of 8 courses with 161 classes. The application period for courses is from October 15 to November 7, and applications can be submitted through the Seongdong-gu Urban Management Corporation sports facility website or by visiting the Okjeong Education and Culture Center.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “We expect that operating the Okjeong Education and Culture Center as a new district-run sports facility will allow residents to enjoy more active recreational sports and leisure activities,” adding, “We will continue to strive to revitalize sports in Seongdong-gu to bring more vitality to residents’ daily lives.”
