Training Based on Programming Competition for 100 Elementary and Secondary School Teachers
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Future Science Education Center (Director Park Jeonghaeng) announced on the 20th that it conducted the ‘2024 Gyeonggi Teacher Programming Challenge (GTPC)’ professional training for 100 elementary and secondary school teachers.
The training, which began on the 14th, was conducted in a blended format combining 6 hours of online asynchronous learning and a 9-hour 2-day in-person session. It was designed with the goal of fostering computational thinking, software and artificial intelligence education capabilities, and collaborative problem-solving skills.
The in-person training held from the 18th to the 19th at the YBM Training Center organized teacher groups in a programming contest format, allowing participants to experience collaborative thinking and hands-on practice through solving real problems.
The contest involved solving 12 problems and evaluated performance in accuracy, speed, and spirit of challenge, with special awards also given. The main programs included ▲ Basics of problem-solving programming ▲ Collaborative problem-solving programming contest ▲ Sharing programming solutions. Based on the contest results, the winning team will be appointed as curriculum development committee members for the 2025 Gyeonggi Teacher Programming Challenge.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Future Science Education Center expects this training to strengthen AI and digital teacher competencies among local teachers, facilitate sharing of practical cases, and present a leading educational program that can serve as a nationwide model referenced by other regions.
Park Jeonghaeng, Director of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Future Science Education Center, said, “Through this programming training, teachers will be able to expand their computational thinking and digital literacy,” adding, “We hope teachers will actively demonstrate leadership in the rapidly changing educational environment.”
