Discussion on Yongsan International Business District Blueprint and Yongsan Park Development Directions
The Seoul Metropolitan Government will hold a forum to discuss the city's role and strategies related to the development plan for the Yongsan International Business District, the development direction of Yongsan Park, and policies for attracting global companies.
On the 20th, Seoul announced that it will hold a forum titled "Yongsan Embracing the World, an International Business City Where Citizens and Nature Coexist" on the 30th at Peace and Park within the War Memorial of Korea.
This forum aims to understand Yongsan Park, the first national park, and explore strategies for establishing the Yongsan International Business District as a global business hub. The creation of Yongsan Park and the development of the Yongsan International Business District are considered key factors determining the future of this area.
The forum consists of three sessions in total. △ Session 1: Yongsan Park, the Legacy of the Base and Harmony with Nature △ Session 2: The Future of Global Seoul, focusing on the Yongsan International Business District. Each session will feature two presentations (four in total). Session 3 will be a comprehensive discussion with a panel of seven experts.
In the first session, Professor Chang-gyu Choi of Hanyang University will explain the changes in the basic plan for Yongsan Park, analyze the design competition, changes in the basic plan, and the relocation of the Presidential Office, and propose Seoul's role in this context. Professor Jung-jin Shin of Sungkyunkwan University will present the current status of joint investigations of facilities within the Yongsan base and future tasks for Yongsan Park.
In the second session, Professor Seok-yeon Yoo of the University of Seoul will discuss the potential of Yongsan as a global future city based on its historical context. Research Fellow Ji-hye Han of the Seoul Institute will introduce case studies of global company attraction strategies in competitive Asian cities and propose strategies for successfully attracting headquarters to the Yongsan International Business District.
In the final comprehensive discussion session, seven experts from various fields will discuss "Harmonious Development Strategies for Yongsan Park and the International Business District." Professor Ja-hoon Koo of Hanyang University will chair the session, with panelists including Seong-pil Kang, Director of Yongsan Three-Dimensional City at Seoul City; Hyuk-kyung Yoon, CEO of ANU Design Group; Jae-gon Park, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics & Trade; Jong-hyun Park, CEO of 2GOOD; Min-woo Cho, Director of Park Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport; and Hye-young Choi, Professor at Sungkyunkwan University.
Based on the discussions at the forum, Seoul plans to concretize the vision and development strategies for Yongsan's future as a global hub. The forum is free and open to all citizens. Pre-registration is available via the official poster QR code, and on-site registration is also possible on the day of the event. The forum will be streamed live on Seoul City's official YouTube channel.
Im Chang-soo, Director of Future Space Planning, said, "We hope this forum will be a place for citizens and experts to come together and engage in in-depth discussions on development strategies to make Yongsan the center of Seoul and a global business hub." He added, "For Yongsan to be reborn as a world-class international business city where citizens and nature coexist, the interest and participation of many companies are necessary, and through this, we hope to lead global competitiveness."
