Set to be Busan's Largest Folk Art Festival Enjoyable for Everyone

Busan City will hold the '2024 Busan Folk Arts Festival,' the largest folk arts festival in Busan where citizens can directly experience Busan's intangible cultural heritage, at Dasom Square in Busan Citizens Park on the 26th and 27th.

This event was prepared to widely promote Busan's intangible cultural heritage, where history and tradition breathe, and to provide citizens with opportunities to enjoy our unique folk culture.


This year's Folk Arts Festival, under the theme "Wind, Wind, Wind (Autumn Wind, Folk Wind, Shoulder Wind!)," will open with a ceremony at 1:30 PM on October 26 and feature various intangible heritage performances and traditional experience events over two days.


On the first day, the 26th, performances will include ▲ Busan Arts High School Gugak Ensemble ▲ Arirang-style Taekwondo demonstration ▲ Dongnae Jisinbalgi ▲ Kyungsung University Dongnae Yaryu, a transmission school ▲ Fusion Gugak ▲ Dadaepo Hurisori performance, among others.


On the 27th, the program includes ▲ Baeyoung Elementary School Busan Nongak, a transmission school ▲ Busan Gobundori Geollip performance ▲ Tightrope walking ▲ Special performance by trot singer Kang Hye-yeon ▲ Suyeong Nongcheongnori performance, along with citizen participation programs such as ▲ the game "Mugunghwa Flower Has Bloomed" ▲ quiz contests ▲ and singing competitions.


Additionally, at this Folk Arts Festival, anyone can enjoy a variety of traditional culture and traditional games experiences.


For performing intangible heritage experiences, there will be Dongnae Hakchum costume experience, Suyeong Nongcheongnori instrument experience, and Gudeok Mangkkaesori experience. For functional intangible heritage experiences, there will be pottery, Hwahae craft, Jeongak craft, Jiyeon craft, Dongjanggak craft, Daego craft, and carving craft workshops.


Traditional games include making your own folding screen, crafting traditional pattern wooden tops, kite making, calligraphy experience, mini tug-of-war, sword experience, Tuho throwing, traditional palanquin experience, hoop rolling, Sabangchigi, and rice cake pounding experiences.


The experiential events of the Folk Arts Festival will be held from 11 AM to 5 PM. Also, by participating in the stamp tour and various programs listed in the pamphlet, visitors can receive small souvenirs.


Most experiential events are free, but some programs such as kite making, traditional pattern garland making, and traditional pattern jewel talk making require a participation fee of 1,000 KRW.
