Geumcheon-gu Imposes This Year's Regular Traffic Inducement Charges... Payment Due by the 31st of This Month

Imposed on facilities with a total floor area of 1000㎡ or more, payment due by October 31
Up to 3% surcharge applied if payment is not made by the deadline

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it has imposed 12.4 billion KRW in traffic inducement charges on 9,908 cases for the 2024 regular installment.

The traffic inducement charge is imposed every October on owners of large-scale facilities that cause traffic congestion to alleviate traffic jams, according to the Urban Traffic Readjustment Promotion Act.

The subjects of the charge are individuals or corporations owning a share of 160㎡ or more in facilities with a total floor area of 1,000㎡ or more. As of July 31 this year, the owners of the relevant facilities become liable for payment.

The payment deadline is until the 31st of this month, and those liable can pay the charge by visiting a nearby bank, using a virtual account, or electronic payment methods.

Payees with reasons for exemption can apply for adjustments by submitting a report and supporting documents to the Traffic Administration Division of the district office within 30 days from the date of receiving the notice if the facility is unused or used as officetel residence, or within 10 days if ownership changes during the charge period (prorated calculation application).

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We ask for the cooperation of residents in imposing the charge to alleviate local traffic congestion,” and added, “Please be aware that failure to pay the traffic inducement charge within the deadline will result in a maximum 3% surcharge and may lead to disadvantages such as real estate seizure.”
