On the evening of the 19th, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, attended the opening ceremony of the '2024 Nowon Moonlight Walk' held at the floor fountain near Korea Bible University by Danghyeon Stream.
The Nowon Moonlight Walk is a public art light sculpture festival held along Danghyeon Stream, an eco-friendly ecological stream.
The theme running through this exhibition is 'Breath.' It presents a total of 41 works including light sculptures, media art, and various installation arts to evoke the source of life, the law of harmony and circulation, and rest.
This year, two overseas invited artist teams linked with Taiwan's 'Weijin Lantern Festival,' 15 domestic invited artist teams, and three teams based in Nowon participated. Additionally, works completed by youths together with artists through the youth visual arts education project 'Moonlight Art School' were also exhibited, adding deeper meaning.
The lighting ceremony was attended by Mayor Oh Seung-rok, members of the National Assembly, city councilors, and district councilors. The event proceeded in the order of ▲a themed performance by the Biseul Dance Troupe ▲a congratulatory performance by the Saengdonggam Crew ▲countdown and lighting ▲Danghyeon Stream tour.
The 2024 Nowon Moonlight Walk will be held from October 19 to November 17 along a 2km section of the Danghyeon Stream promenade (from Sanggye Station/Nowon Mathematics Culture Center to Junggye Station/Danghyeon 1 Bridge). Visitors can view the artworks every evening from 6 PM to 10 PM, with various side events also prepared.
Last year's Moonlight Walk was recognized as a representative festival of the district, with a total attendance of 956,000 people, averaging about 39,000 visitors per day according to KT Big Data analysis.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, said, “The Moonlight Walk is a festival that stimulates emotions through visual arts,” and added, “I hope everyone will recognize the strength of cultural city Nowon through the Moonlight Walk, which is developing into a premium festival that secures both artistic quality and popularity year after year.”
