Guri City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) recently attracted attention by presenting a unique content series on the city's official YouTube channel, Guri Vision, where the mayor and the youngest public official switch roles for 24 hours to experience each other's duties.
According to Guri City on the 18th, the video series consists of four episodes in total. The mayor works at the local administrative welfare center, directly communicating with citizens, while the youngest public official performs the duties of the head of the administrative institution in the mayor's office.
Baek Kyung-hyun, who became the youngest public official, carried out frontline administrative tasks in daily life such as inspecting cooling facilities at senior centers and consulting on social welfare-related civil complaints. He had the opportunity to listen attentively to the practical voices of citizens he met on-site through vivid communication.
Meanwhile, the youngest public official presided over executive meetings in the mayor's office and held open consultation sessions with daycare children, answering questions from the children's perspective, thereby performing the mayor's duties.
The highlight of the video shows the youngest public official, now acting as mayor, sharing snacks chosen together with new employees in the office, fostering camaraderie. This episode recorded the highest number of views among the four and provided an opportunity to create a flexible organizational culture within the city hall.
This video collection, under the unique concept of switching roles between the mayor and the youngest public official for 24 hours, showed an understanding of each other's positions and difficulties, forming empathy with citizens and receiving great responses.
Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun said, “Working as the youngest employee meeting citizens on-site reminded me of when I was first appointed as a public official.” He added, “I will be a friendly mayor who carefully considers the work difficulties of new employees and enjoys cheerful communication with citizens. I will continue to produce various fun and useful content to enhance the transparency and reliability of administration.”
