The National Police Agency announced on the 20th that Lieutenant Sim Jae-ho, Sergeant Lee Jae-hyun, Sergeant Na Seong-ju, and Sergeant Jang Jin-hee have been selected as the '2024 Police Heroes.'

Lieutenant Sim and Sergeant Lee, detectives of the violent crimes unit at the Seoul Western Police Station, were dispatched on August 1, 2004, to apprehend a suspect in a violent crime when they were stabbed with a weapon and seriously injured. The two officers were urgently transported to the hospital but unfortunately died in the line of duty.
Sergeant Na and Sergeant Jang, officers at the Chungnam Buyeo Police Station, responded to a report on October 24, 1995, of an armed spy near Jeonggaksa Temple in Buyeo-gun, Chungnam. They engaged in a gunfight at the scene and died in the line of duty.
Cho Ji-ho, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, stated, “Providing appropriate honors that correspond to the sacrifices and dedication of officers who died in the line of duty lays the foundation for the sense of mission and pride of police officers who serve with responsibility, focusing solely on the people.” He added, “By the end of this year, memorial sculptures for the selected police heroes will be erected, and their true police spirit and achievements will be widely publicized.”
