Paju-si, Forced Demolition of 4 Illegal Buildings in Yongjugol

Mayor Kim Kyung-il: "Relentless and Bold Administrative Enforcement to Complete a Women-Friendly City"

Paju-si, Forced Demolition of 4 Illegal Buildings in Yongjugol Paju City is issuing administrative execution warrants and carrying out forced demolition of illegal buildings within the Yeonpung-ri sex trade district.

On the 18th, Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it had issued an administrative execution warrant and carried out forced demolition of illegal buildings within the Yeonpung-ri red-light district. This marks the sixth administrative execution since the first one was conducted at the end of November last year.

Paju City explained that despite issuing voluntary correction orders and multiple administrative execution warning notices regarding illegal buildings in the red-light district, the orders were not complied with. Consequently, with the cooperation of related agencies such as the Paju Police Station, the city proceeded with forced demolition as part of the sixth administrative execution.

On the 14th and 15th, the city deployed demolition personnel and equipment to forcibly remove illegal extensions of four buildings used as waiting rooms and other prostitution spaces. The demolition was completed without resistance from the building owners or workers.

Kim Kyung-il, Mayor of Paju City, stated, “To complete the creation of a women-friendly city, we plan to boldly continue administrative executions without interruption until the illegalities of buildings within the red-light district are resolved.” He added, “We ask for citizens’ interest so that we can continuously carry out maintenance of violating buildings, eradicate illegal construction activities in the Yeonpung-ri red-light district, and quickly restore spaces of human rights violations into spaces for citizens.”

Meanwhile, after a year-long administrative lawsuit to cancel voluntary correction orders against 51 building owners in the Yeonpung-ri red-light district, the city won two favorable rulings on September 10 and October 8. Currently, building owners themselves are closing their businesses and creating an atmosphere of voluntarily correcting or demolishing illegalities under the Building Act.
