Halloween Safety Management at Its Best!... Mapo-gu Hongdae Red Road Disaster Alert Electronic Display Fully Operational

Red Road R1~R6 Disaster Text LED Boards Operate 5 Units Daily from 9 PM to 2 AM Year-Round
Accurate and Prompt Disaster Alerts with Broadcast Function for Everyone's Safety Information Reception

Mapo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Gang-su) operates a ‘disaster alert electronic display board’ on Hongdae Red Road, a world-renowned tourist attraction and a densely crowded area.

Red Road is a cultural and artistic street visited by 52% of foreign tourists coming to Seoul, attracting up to 100,000 people per day during major events such as Halloween and year-end holidays.

Considering this situation, the district installed five disaster alert electronic display boards from sections R1 to R6 on Red Road to quickly deliver accurate information in case of disasters and minimize damage.

The display boards are made with dimensions of 3.27m in width and 2.12m in height, allowing disaster-related information to be easily seen from a distance.

Under normal circumstances, they provide various information including safety updates, weather, environment, and district news, and also relay real-time congestion information of major crowded areas in Mapo-gu such as Hongdae Tourism Special Zone, Hongdae Entrance Station, and Hapjeong Station to prevent accidents caused by crowding.

In emergencies, the boards broadcast emergency disaster messages and crowd behavior guidelines to support prompt response.

Especially for visually impaired people and those not looking at the display boards, a voice broadcast function has been added so that everyone can access safety information.

Considering the characteristics of Red Road, which attracts many tourists, the district plans to operate the display boards daily from 9 PM to 2 AM throughout the year.

Additionally, ahead of Halloween, when large crowds are expected, the district will further strengthen safety management by installing three more AI crowd density analysis systems in the Hongdae Red Road club area.

As a result, a total of nine AI crowd density analysis systems and five disaster alert electronic display boards will be installed on Red Road, enabling the Mapo-gu Disaster Safety Situation Room to conduct 24-hour real-time monitoring and respond more systematically to safety accidents.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Safety is the most important value for Mapo-gu, and we are building a meticulous safety net with the belief that there is no such thing as overreaction,” adding, “We will continue to strive to make Mapo-gu a place where all tourists and residents can feel safe and enjoy their time.”
