Operating 'Yeongwol Photo Studio' and More for the 'Photo City Yeongwol' Brand
Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Choi Myung-seo) announced on the 18th that the Yeongwol Culture and Tourism Foundation will hold the '2024 Yeongwol Culture Recharge Festa' for two days from the 25th to the 26th at the Yeongwol Sports Park Indoor Gymnasium.
The '2024 Yeongwol Culture Recharge Festa' is an event where citizens who have led the Yeongwol cultural city creation project come together to share the cultural achievements they have made so far. With the hope that the residents of Yeongwol will recharge through culture, a variety of rich experiential events have been prepared.
During the event, the Yeongwol Cultural City theme pavilion, which embodies the core values of Yeongwol Cultural City such as 'Between Moments - People Recharge,' 'Winding Paths - Vitality Recharge,' and 'Every Corner - Space Recharge,' will be operated. In addition, experiential events, a stamp tour, the Yeongwol Photo Studio for branding Yeongwol as a photo city, a Yeongwol four-cut photo event, a glocal cultural talent (children’s English musical) performance presentation, and a Yeongwol Youth Orchestra concert are prepared.
Furthermore, the event features a 'resident-led performance sharing forum' and the introduction of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) elements as part of an eco-friendly cultural policy.
On the 25th, performance sharing forums will be held under the themes 'Culture City Yeongwol Created by Residents,' 'Cultural Miners Driving Yeongwol Culture,' and on the 26th, 'Local Issue Resolution Regional Laboratory,' and 'Our Neighborhood Cultural Space Created Together with Neighbors.' Various experiential events prepared by project participants will be held over the two days. Also, before each forum begins, pre-performances prepared by residents participating in the cultural city will be held, allowing for resident-led performance presentations.
The eco-friendly cultural policy was intensively applied to the event space planning. The entire event space is composed of recyclable paper boards, embodying the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) values of eco-friendliness.
Kim Kyung-hee, Director of the Yeongwol Culture and Tourism Foundation Cultural City Center, said, “I am grateful that Yeongwol Cultural City, born from the power of residents, is becoming a shining cultural mine (光山) year by year,” and added, “I hope many Yeongwol residents feel the power of Yeongwol culture and experience a time to recharge through culture.”
Meanwhile, Yeongwol-gun was designated as the 4th statutory cultural city in December 2022 and has presented a direction to overcome problems such as population decline and regional economic stagnation caused by the collapse of the mining industry through the 'power of culture,' aiming to transform from a 'dark coal mine (鑛山)' into a 'shining cultural mine (光山).'
