Joint Research Project Conducted with High-Performance Valve Technology Support Center
Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) announced on the 18th that it has signed a business agreement with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
The signing ceremony, held on the 16th at BEXCO in Busan during the '2024 International Offshore Plant Exhibition (OFFSHORE KOREA 2024),' was attended by President Lee Hae-woo, Victor Flynn, Vice President of ABS Far East Asia, and Park Jung-kyu, General Manager of ABS Far East Asia Shipbuilding and Marine Equipment.
Founded in 1862, ABS is an international maritime industry self-regulatory organization that conducts thorough and accurate classification inspections and registrations of merchant ships for shipowners, shipbuilders, marine insurers, cargo owners, and shipping stakeholders worldwide. It also undertakes projects to enhance the safety of ships and life and property at sea.
Through this agreement, Dong-A University and ABS will collaborate on joint use of research facilities and equipment centered on the High-Performance Valve Technology Support Center, testing and certification cooperation, establishment of mutual exchange networks, and professional education.
Previously, Dong-A University's High-Performance Valve Technology Support Center signed an agreement with the ABS Houston branch in 2016 and has been designated as an ABS-approved testing institution (in four fields including flow testing) since 2021.
As the first KOLAS (Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme) accredited institution in the field of cryogenic valves in Korea, Dong-A University's Valve Center, recognized as the 'first ABS-approved testing institution in the mechanical dynamics field in Korea,' expanded its accredited testing scope at the end of 2022 by adding the 'hydrogen valve' testing item (KS B ISO 19880-3) in addition to the existing dynamics testing field.
President Lee Hae-woo stated, “As an internationally accredited testing certificate issuing institution essential for exporting valves used in ships and nuclear power, we will strive to contribute more to regional industrial development through cooperation with ABS. We will also do our best to nurture practical talents in hydrogen energy at the highest level in Asia.”
