Prosecutor General Impeachment Drive Called "An Attempt to Stop All Prosecution"
On the 18th, Choo Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party, expressed opposition to the Democratic Party of Korea's third proposal for a special investigation law concerning First Lady Kim Geon-hee, stating that he "cannot agree" with it.
At the National Assembly's National Audit Countermeasure Meeting held that day, Floor Leader Choo criticized the proposal as an "unconstitutional evil law aimed at shielding Lee Jae-myung and creating a presidential impeachment situation."
He argued that excluding the ruling party's right to recommend the special investigator and allowing the opposition party to select them, as well as targeting an individual rather than specific charges, is unfair. Regarding the special investigation law, Floor Leader Choo said, "They claim it is a politically neutral and fair appointment of a special investigator, but it is a black comedy," adding, "Is it neutral and fair to exclude the ruling party's recommendation rights and select the special investigator according to the Democratic Party's preferences?"
He also pointed out the increase in investigation targets from the original eight allegations, saying, "They increased the number of investigation targets by five just two weeks after the second special investigation law was discarded," calling it a "worse evil law" and a "sloppy and hastily made special investigation law."

Regarding the opposition party's stance to impeach Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung and Seoul Central District Prosecutor Lee Chang-soo, who decided not to indict First Lady Kim, he criticized it as retaliation, saying, "Impeaching the Prosecutor General and the Central District Prosecutor is effectively a complete stop of the prosecution."
After the meeting, Floor Leader Choo told reporters that he believes the prosecution made efforts to announce the investigation results fairly based on evidence and legal principles regarding the non-indictment of First Lady Kim, stating, "The people will judge the outcome."
He added, "There will be various evaluations of the prosecution's investigation results, but I think they tried their best to announce results that seek public understanding."
