Expected Collaboration Framework in Fields such as Robots, Hydrogen, and AI
Daol Investment & Securities forecasted on the 18th that Hyundai Motor Company will "establish a collaborative relationship with Japan's Toyota in various fields such as hydrogen, robotics, and artificial intelligence (AI)."
On the same day, Yu Ji-woong, a researcher at Daol Investment & Securities, said, "On the 27th, Hyundai Motor will start cooperation with Toyota at the 'Hyundai N x Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival.'"
Collaboration in the robotics field is particularly noteworthy. Researcher Yu pointed out, "It is known that Boston Dynamics (BD), in which Hyundai Motor holds an 80% stake, will collaborate with Toyota's TRI. The goal of this collaboration is likely to develop new robots capable of more agile skill acquisition based on data."
TRI plans to develop new humanoid robots using large behavior models (LBM). BD has previously mass-produced and developed Stretch, the robot dog Spot, and the bipedal robot Atlas.
Researcher Yu stated, "Tesla and BMW have announced plans to introduce humanoid robots on their production lines. If Hyundai Motor and others adopt this, efficiency will greatly increase. BD's stake held by Hyundai Motor Group and its affiliates reaches 80%. Through future public sales and other means, it has high availability as a major resource for the group companies."
He also anticipated the possibility of the birth of a Korea-Japan joint venture automobile. The greatest strength lies in the market share of both companies (global 18%). This is a quantitative scale that competitors cannot match.
Researcher Yu said, "If collaboration occurs between Toyota, the world's number one automobile group, and Hyundai Motor Group, the third largest group, various synergies can arise. This will be especially highlighted as a major strength in regions excluding China," adding, "Hyundai Motor has recently been focusing on the hydrogen business, so joint development with Toyota, which has strengths in the hydrogen car ecosystem, is highly likely."
