On the Actual Usage of Native Korean Words in School Grammar
Choi Yuri, a junior, and Kwon Yujin, a sophomore in the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Dong-Eui University (thesis advisor Professor Choi Jungho), received the Grand Prize at the “578th Hangeul Day Busan Regional University Student Academic Paper Presentation Contest” hosted by the Busan Hangeul Society.
Choi Yuri and Kwon Yujin from Dong-Eui University, who won the grand prize at the Busan Hangeul Society Paper Competition.
They presented a paper titled “A Study on the Actual Usage of Native Korean Words in School Grammar,” which examined the historical changes in school grammar terminology focusing on the grammatical waves between the Grammar faction and the Malbon faction, and compared and analyzed the ratio of Sino-Korean words to native Korean words through compiled materials and current textbooks, earning them the Grand Prize.
Choi Yuri and Kwon Yujin said, “Although there were difficulties during the three months of research, the process of finding the direction of the thesis was truly meaningful and a joyful experience from which we learned a lot. We are grateful to Professor Choi Jungho for his guidance.”
The Busan Hangeul Society holds an annual university student paper presentation contest on topics related to the Korean language and Hangeul to commemorate Hangeul Day. The awards ceremony for this contest was held on the 9th at the Busan City Hall auditorium during the 578th Hangeul Day commemorative ceremony.
