Discussion on Collection Measures for Departments with Over 10 Million Won in Arrears This Year
Guri City held a report meeting on measures to collect overdue non-tax local revenues for the third quarter of 2024 on the 16th to expand local finances and increase tax revenue. The city of Guri, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) announced on the 17th that it held a 2024 3rd quarter local tax and non-tax revenue delinquency collection strategy meeting on the 16th to expand local finances and increase tax revenue.
Presided over by the Director of the Administrative Support Bureau, the meeting was attended by departments with current year non-tax revenue delinquency amounts exceeding 10 million KRW to review the progress made so far and discuss collection measures to minimize carryover delinquency amounts.
The attendees monitored the collection activities carried out through the third quarter to check collection performance and agreed to analyze delinquent taxpayers by type in each department and establish customized collection strategies accordingly to minimize delinquency amounts for more efficient future collection.
Notably, the scope was expanded this time to include not only general account non-tax revenue delinquencies, which were previously handled, but also other special account non-tax revenue delinquencies.
So far, the city has actively encouraged voluntary payment from delinquent taxpayers through sending text messages, phone calls, and delinquency notices, and for high-amount delinquents, it has conducted collection activities such as home searches, on-site visits, and implementing a dedicated collection system responsible for non-tax revenue delinquencies to reduce delinquency amounts.
Additionally, starting in October, the city will operate a comprehensive non-tax revenue delinquency cleanup period to intensively organize delinquency amounts and enforce administrative sanctions such as public disclosure of names and restrictions on licensed businesses, accelerating second-half activities to improve the delinquency collection rate.
Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri said, “As we approach the end of 2024, we will do our best to increase the collection rate to reduce delinquency amounts, and for delinquent taxpayers facing economic difficulties, we will take measures to allow installment payments.”
