Gyeonggi-do Association of the Visually Impaired Holds 'Gyeonggi-do Visually Impaired Welfare Conference' in Pocheon

Gyeonggi-do Association of the Visually Impaired Holds 'Gyeonggi-do Visually Impaired Welfare Conference' in Pocheon Baek Young-hyun, Mayor of Pocheon, is delivering a greeting at the "Gyeonggi-do Visually Impaired Welfare Festival" held on the 16th at Pocheon Sports Complex, attended by visually impaired individuals and volunteers from 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi-do.

Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) announced on the 17th that the 'Gyeonggi Province Welfare Festival for the Visually Impaired' was held on the 16th at Pocheon Sports Complex, attended by visually impaired individuals and volunteers from 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province.


This 'Gyeonggi Province Welfare Festival for the Visually Impaired' was organized to commemorate the 45th White Cane Day and the 98th Braille Day. It was hosted by the Gyeonggi Province Federation of the Visually Impaired and organized by the Pocheon branch of the same federation.


The event began with a pre-ceremony performance by the Pocheon Municipal Arts Troupe and was divided into two parts. The first part, the commemorative ceremony, included the reading of the White Cane Day charter, presentation of white canes, awarding of certificates of commendation to exemplary disabled persons and meritorious individuals, and a plaque of appreciation ceremony. The second part, the cultural program, featured various experiential activities such as singing contests, Yutnori (traditional Korean board game), and a Braille competition.


Mayor Baek Young-hyun of Pocheon said, “I sincerely welcome the hosting of the Gyeonggi Province Welfare Festival for the Visually Impaired in Pocheon. I extend my respect to all those who have worked hard to improve the welfare and rights of visually impaired individuals.” He added, “Pocheon City will continue to remember the significance of the white cane as a symbol of the will to overcome disabilities and strive to create a happy city where disabled people can live as members of the local community without discrimination.”
