Gyeonggi Goyang Handicraft Exhibition Opens on the 16th in Insadong, Seoul

Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 16th that the 'Gyeonggi Goyang Craft Exhibition' will be held until the 21st on the first floor of the 'Insa Art Center' in Insadong, Seoul (41-1 Insadong-gil, Jongno-gu).

This exhibition, aimed at widely promoting excellent crafts that embody the history and culture of Gyeonggi Province and Goyang City and fostering the development of the craft cultural industry, is organized by the Gyeonggi Craft Cooperative (Chairman Jeon Jin-sook) and sponsored by Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) and the Korea Federation of SMEs (Chairman Kim Ki-moon).

A notable feature of this exhibition is that, unlike the previous 20 or so exhibitions held only in Goyang City, it is being held in Insadong, a mecca of traditional crafts and a popular destination for foreigners.

The exhibition features 36 artists from six fields?woodcraft, ceramic craft, metal craft, textile craft, paper craft, and other crafts?displaying creative and practical works that blend tradition and modernity.

Jeon Jin-sook, Chairman of the Gyeonggi Craft Cooperative, stated, “Through this exhibition, by displaying and selling original works that possess both artistic value and practicality, we plan to expand the base of the craft cultural industry in the Gyeonggi region and boost the morale of craft artists.”

She added, “We will strive to widely promote the beauty and excellence of crafts and support the creative activities of craft artists so that the craft cultural industry can develop further.”
