Gyeonggi Province and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) will support approximately 930 high-efficiency heating and cooling units for social welfare facilities over three years to address the social and economic polarization issue caused by climate change, known as the 'climate gap.'

On the 16th, Gyeonggi Province and KEPCO signed an agreement on the 'Gyeonggi Province-type Climate Gap Resolution EERS (High-Efficiency Equipment Distribution) Collaborative Project' at KEPCO's Northern Gyeonggi Headquarters.

According to the agreement, starting next year, each city and county in Gyeonggi Province will conduct demand surveys targeting social welfare centers, elderly medical welfare facilities, and other social welfare facilities. Based on these surveys, KEPCO will verify the sites and install about 310 high-efficiency heating and cooling units (energy efficiency grade 1 certified products) annually for three years, totaling approximately 930 units. The project cost of 3 billion KRW will be shared equally, with KEPCO covering 50% and Gyeonggi Province (including cities and counties) covering the other 50%.

The province expects that social welfare facilities burdened by heating and cooling costs due to climate change will somewhat alleviate their economic burden through this project. Gyeonggi Province and KEPCO also plan to continue collaborative projects supporting social welfare facilities for vulnerable groups in the future.

The signing ceremony was attended by Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province; Park Jeong-sun, Head of the Power Business Department at KEPCO Northern Gyeonggi Headquarters; and Lee Sang-ho, Head of the Power Business Department at KEPCO Gyeonggi Headquarters.

Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, “We plan to actively support energy-vulnerable groups and social welfare facilities struggling due to climate change to resolve the climate gap and realize energy welfare.”
