Pyeongchang-gun, Eco-Friendly Rice Harvest Event for School Meals

Eco-friendly Rice Cultivation Area 7ha This Year... Entirely Contracted Cultivation
County Governor Sim: "We Will Continue to Actively Support Eco-friendly Rice Cultivation"

Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Shim Jae-guk) held a harvest event on the 16th at an eco-friendly rice production complex for the pilot eco-friendly rice fields supplied to local schools.


About 60 people, including Shim Jae-guk, Governor of Pyeongchang-gun, Park Chang-dong, President of the Pyeongchang-gun Rice Farmers Association, and association members, attended the event to carry out the harvest of eco-friendly rice for school meals.

This year, the eco-friendly rice cultivation area is about 7 hectares, and all the produced rice is contract-grown and supplied for school meals in Pyeongchang-gun. In 2023, about 30 tons of rice were supplied to schools for meals, and by September of this year, 14 tons of 2023-harvest rice were delivered. The 2024-harvest eco-friendly rice, which began harvesting today, is expected to be sequentially supplied to schools in quantities of about 20 tons.

Park Chang-dong, President of the Pyeongchang-gun Rice Farmers Association, said, “Although cultivating eco-friendly rice is difficult, we worked hard thinking that the rice produced by eco-friendly farmers would be eaten by students in Pyeongchang-gun,” adding, “We will continue to produce agricultural products that can be trusted and eaten with confidence.”


Governor Shim Jae-guk said, “Pyeongchang-gun will continue to spare no support for eco-friendly rice farmers to foster eco-friendly rice cultivation complexes.”
