No Phones or Going Out... Just Endure 19 Days to Earn 1.85 Million Won with This Part-Time Job

No Use of Electronic Devices · No Leaving Dormitory During Work Period

A part-time job posting for packaging the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) exam papers has appeared on a job recruitment platform, attracting the attention of netizens. The job pays 1.85 million KRW for just 19 days of work, not even a full month. However, the conditions include a complete ban on using electronic devices during the work period and no permission to leave the premises.

According to the job posting on the 16th, the application period is until the 27th of this month. From the day applications close until the 14th of next month, workers will stay together at a printing factory located in Sejong Special Self-Governing City, working 8 hours a day for a total payment of 1,848,890 KRW (net amount). This amounts to a daily wage of 97,310 KRW. As of 1:20 PM on the day of the announcement, the application deadline had passed and the posting was removed from the webpage.

The job duties are simple: "packaging and quality inspection." In other words, part-timers only need to check whether there are any defects in the printed CSAT exam papers and then package them.

However, strict conditions apply to this part-time job. First, no electronic communication devices are allowed. Smartphones, laptops, MP3 players, USB drives, as well as electric shavers and hair dryers are all prohibited.

During the 19-day work period, workers will live together in a designated space and are not allowed to go outside. This is to completely prevent any possibility of the CSAT exam papers being leaked. The work period ends precisely at 5:40 PM on November 14, which coincides with the end time of the CSAT exam.

Applicants must be males aged between their 20s and 60s, with preference given to those who have completed military service. This is likely because the nature of the job requires living together in the same gender group and involves physically demanding tasks such as moving boxes of exam papers weighing several tens of kilograms.

Netizens’ reactions to the job posting are mixed. Some positively commented, saying, "It’s a digital detox and you earn money," and "The merit is earning a large sum of money by working only 19 days, not even a full month." On the other hand, some expressed concerns, stating, "It’s no different from being confined," and "The daily wage seems low compared to the conditions."

Meanwhile, job postings for CSAT exam paper packaging appear on various job search sites every year as the exam date approaches. Given that it is the country’s largest exam attracting national attention, the working conditions have reportedly been very strict in the past as well.
