Samsung Heavy, Strengthens Global Cooperation on 'Eco-friendly Solutions'

Samsung Heavy Industries participated in the '2024 Offshore Korea' held at BEXCO in Busan from the 16th to the 18th, engaging in global cooperation on various eco-friendly products.

The International Offshore Plant Exhibition, held biennially since 2012, is the largest marine specialized exhibition in Korea, with this year's participants including companies from 16 countries and over 170 firms.

On the first day, the 16th, Samsung Heavy Industries signed an agreement with the UK classification society LR to develop the concept of a Green Ammonia FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading). Additionally, it signed a cooperation agreement with the French classification society BV to develop optimal solutions utilizing CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) technology, marking the start of active activities. The company is also promoting its 'Floating Blue Ammonia Production Facility,' which was certified last month by the US classification society ABS.

Green Ammonia refers to ammonia produced without carbon emissions using renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. Blue Ammonia is ammonia that significantly reduces carbon emissions by applying carbon dioxide capture technology during the production process.

Samsung Heavy Industries set up an exhibition booth at the center of the exhibition hall, visualizing its self-developed 'LNG Liquefaction Process Module SENSE' as a 3D hologram, and actively launched marketing efforts by introducing an offshore wind power model applying a new concept construction method based on production automation.

Jang Haegi, Vice President and Head of Technology Development at Samsung Heavy Industries, stated, "We will further strengthen global cooperation to reduce greenhouse gases and focus our research and development on producing and utilizing eco-friendly energy as well as implementing optimal offshore solutions."
