Selected 111 Artifacts from Insu
Exhibited for Visitors to View
Hapcheon Museum in Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 16th that it has completed the acquisition of 998 artifacts excavated from the World Heritage Okjeon Tumuli.
This acquisition is a significant achievement as it is the first time since Hapcheon Museum was designated as the entrusted institution for the storage and management of national heritage in 2021 that it has directly acquired artifacts excavated from the Okjeon Tumuli for exhibition and management.
Hapcheon Museum acquired 301 artifacts excavated in 2021 from the Far East Cultural Heritage Research Institute last April, and on October 14, it additionally acquired 697 artifacts excavated in 2020 from the Hanbit Cultural Heritage Research Institute, thus managing a total of 998 artifacts.
The newly acquired artifacts include footed plates, gold earrings, saddles, stirrups, horse belt ornaments, scale armor, large ring-handled knives, and phoenix-patterned large ring-handled knives. They will be safely stored in a new storage facility equipped with the latest temperature and humidity control functions, scheduled to be completed by the end of this month.
After organizing the artifacts, they will be registered in the Cultural Heritage Standard Management System and made available to the public nationwide. Among them, 111 selected pieces will be exhibited to residents and visitors. The production and installation of exhibition items are currently underway, and Hapcheon Museum is preparing to reopen at the end of November.
County Governor Kim Yoon-cheol said, “I am very pleased that artifacts excavated from the World Heritage Okjeon Tumuli can now be directly stored, managed, and exhibited at Hapcheon Museum for the first time.” He added, “We will continue to expand storage facilities so that all artifacts excavated not only from the Okjeon Tumuli but also from the Hapcheon area can be directly stored and managed locally, and through various research and exhibitions, we will ensure that many people visit Hapcheon Museum.”
