Establishment of a Code of Conduct Specifying SKT AI Governance
SK Telecom announced on the 16th that it has established an 'AI Code of Conduct' that concretizes the basic principles of artificial intelligence (AI) governance, incorporated it into company regulations, and that all employees have participated in a pledge to practice it.
AI governance is the AI technology management system and the values pursued by SKT, introduced into its management system to ensure the reliability and stability of artificial intelligence (AI) so that the AI pyramid strategy can be effectively executed.
SKT's basic principles of AI governance, called 'T.H.E. AI,' is an abbreviation of 'by Telco, for Humanity, with Ethics AI,' meaning ▲ the characteristics of SKT AI (by Telco, based on telecommunications technology) ▲ the goal (for Humanity, toward and for people) ▲ the value (with Ethics, centered on ethical values).
By synthesizing these key principles of AI governance, SKT established the 'AI Code of Conduct,' which formalizes the behavioral principles and standards that all employees must comply with to practice ‘T.H.E. AI.’
First, the 'Telecommunications Technology-Based Code of Conduct' refers to applying the know-how of user data management accumulated in the mobile telecommunications business to AI technology services to provide safe and reliable AI services and to continuously engage in active communication with users for this purpose.
The 'People-Oriented Code of Conduct' ensures that AI technology operates without bias for all users, preventing the emergence of digital underprivileged groups, and aims to build a human-centered AI service environment that can help solve social issues such as education, health, and employment.
The 'Ethics-Centered Code of Conduct' pursues human-centered AI through practices such as establishing standards for the overall development and operation of related services to actively apply values of non-discrimination and non-violence to AI technology.
Starting with the incorporation of the 'AI Code of Conduct' into company regulations and the pledge of all employees to practice it, SKT plans to continuously promote the internalization of AI governance through internal media promotion and education for employees.
Jonghwan Eom, Head of ESG Innovation at SKT, stated, "The establishment of the AI Code of Conduct and the participation of all employees in the pledge to practice it have further solidified SK Telecom’s commitment to responsible AI governance," adding, "It will serve as a stepping stone for our leap to becoming a global AI company."
