Yangju City conducted employer training and demand surveys for farms wishing to introduce foreign seasonal workers in 2025 at the Agricultural Technology Center on the 14th. Gyeonggi Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 15th that it successfully completed employer training and demand surveys for farms wishing to introduce foreign seasonal workers in 2025 at the Agricultural Technology Center on the 14th.
The training was attended by 110 farm representatives operating agricultural businesses in the region, showing high interest in the foreign seasonal worker system.
The training explained the key points of the foreign seasonal worker system and focused on legal and human rights-related matters that employers must comply with.
The foreign seasonal worker system, introduced by the Ministry of Justice to address seasonal labor shortages in rural areas during sowing and harvesting periods, allows farms to legally employ foreign workers for up to eight months.
During the training, ▲ an overview of the foreign seasonal worker program ▲ the 2025 demand survey ▲ education on the Labor Standards Act and prevention of human rights violations were conducted, and farms had time to directly fill out employment plans for 2025.
In particular, employment conditions such as providing appropriate housing for foreign workers and compliance with minimum wage were emphasized, and active participation and Q&A sessions from farms followed.
A city official stated, “Through this training, farms’ understanding of the foreign seasonal worker program has deepened, and preparations for introducing foreign seasonal workers next year are expected to be more systematic. Yangju City will continue to actively introduce foreign workers to resolve rural labor shortages and will spare no effort to provide multifaceted support to improve workers’ labor conditions.”
Meanwhile, this year, the city received 452 seasonal workers from Laos and Cambodia, supporting about 98 farms in cultivating cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, and more.
The city plans to actively promote the foreign seasonal worker program in 2025 as well to solve the labor shortage problems faced by farms and support stable agricultural management.
The city intends to continuously improve the foreign seasonal worker program and do its best to create an environment satisfactory to both workers and employers in the future.
