Yeoju City Holds Memorial Ceremony for Greek War Veterans On the 14th, Yeoju City held a memorial service at the Greek Military Participation Monument in Yeongwol Park to commemorate the noble sacrifice of the Greek soldiers who participated in the Korean War and gave their precious lives.

Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Chung-woo) announced on the 15th that it held a memorial ceremony on the 14th at the Greek Army War Memorial in Yeongwol Park to commemorate the noble sacrifice of the Greek soldiers who lost their precious lives while participating in the Korean War.


The memorial ceremony was organized by the Yeoju Branch of the Republic of Korea Disabled Veterans Association (Chairman Kim Ki-soo) and was solemnly held with the attendance of about 70 people, including the Mayor of Yeoju, Nikki Kouri, Secretary of the Embassy of Greece in Korea, Consul Dimitrios Niavis, Chief Priest Antonio Im Jong-hoon of the Korean Orthodox Church, Son Ae-jin, Head of the Eastern Gyeonggi Veterans Office, Park Doo-hyung, Chairman of the Yeoju City Council, city and provincial council members, heads of veterans organizations, military units and security organizations, and the Yeogang Association.


In his memorial address, Mayor Lee Chung-woo said, “I pay tribute to the Greek veterans who sacrificed their lives to protect the freedom and peace of the Republic of Korea, and I will forever cherish their noble spirit in my heart. I wish eternal peace for the veterans.”


Yeoju City is promoting a sister city relationship with Papagos, Greece, which has a Korean War participation monument and holds an annual Korean War participation memorial ceremony, through a special bond with Greece. Through this, they plan to further strengthen mutual exchange, cooperation, and friendship centered on veterans affairs.
