Pocheon City held the 2024 Pocheon Humanities Academy lecture titled "Big Data by Song Gil-young, Reading the World" at the Pocheon Banwol Art Hall Small Theater on the 14th. Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) announced on the 15th that it held a humanities lecture titled "Big Data by Song Gil-young, Reading the World" as part of the 2024 Pocheon Humanities Academy at the Pocheon Banwol Art Hall Small Theater on the 14th.
This lecture was held as part of the 2024 Pocheon Humanities Academy project to spread humanities culture in Pocheon, a city of refined humanities, and invited big data expert and mind miner Song Gil-young as the speaker under the theme "Era Forecast: The Era of Naming."
Lecturer Song Gil-young graduated from the Department of Computer Science at Korea University. He earned a master's degree in computer science and a Ph.D. in computer science from Korea University Graduate School. He has served as Chief Strategy Officer and Vice President at Daumsoft, and Vice President at Vibe Company.
He has also worked as an adjunct professor in the Department of Computer Science at Seoul Women’s University, a visiting professor in the Department of Business Administration at Ewha Womans University, and an adjunct professor in the Department of Consumer Economics at Sookmyung Women’s University and the School of Media at Korea University. He has published various books including "Here, Your Desire is Visible," "Do Not Imagine," "Just Don’t Do It," "Era Forecast: The Age of the Core Individual," and "Era Forecast: The Era of Naming."
The lecture was held to a full house at the Pocheon Banwol Art Hall Small Theater, demonstrating the interest of Pocheon citizens in future social changes.
Song Gil-young spoke about the current social changes characterized by automation, fluidity, and miniaturization, where organizations become smaller and humans grow larger. He discussed the phenomenon of "simulation excess," where people pursue a perfect life by imitating others' success methods, which resonated with the audience.
One participant said, "In the era of naming, where one takes responsibility for their own actions and is fully rewarded for them, I realized that I need a modifier before my name rather than a position in an organization." He added, "In a future society where robots and artificial intelligence (AI) can replace us, I will strive to create a modifier before my name that represents me as a human."
A Pocheon city official said, "Through Song Gil-young’s lecture, we hope citizens had a valuable time to escape uncertainty about the future, gain insight into social changes and future predictions, and think about how to respond to the changing era." He added, "We hope that humanities in daily life will continue to bring greater happiness."
Meanwhile, through the 2024 Pocheon Humanities Academy project, Pocheon invited lecturers from various fields such as communication expert Kim Chang-ok, veterinarian Seol Chae-hyun, top instructor Lee Ji-young, and mental health specialist Yang Jae-jin to promote the humanities literacy of Pocheon citizens. Lectures by announcer Lee Geum-hee and neuroscientist Jang Dong-seon are scheduled for November.
