On the 14th, Yonhap News and KBS reported that the Ojeong Police Station in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, arrested and detained Mr. A, a public official in his 30s working in educational administration, on charges of special rape. Mr. A is accused of sexually assaulting a woman along with Mr. B in a tent next to a festival venue in Incheon in September 2017.

At the time, the case remained unsolved as the perpetrator was not found. However, last year, the accomplice Mr. B was caught by the police in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, for another sexual assault case, which led to the revelation of the past crime. During the process of requesting DNA analysis from the National Forensic Service using genetic information collected from Mr. B’s body, it was confirmed that Mr. B’s DNA matched the DNA obtained from the 2017 crime scene.

During subsequent investigations, the police obtained statements indicating that Mr. A had committed the crime together with Mr. B. A police official stated, "When Mr. B was first arrested in Gwacheon last year, he claimed that he committed the crime with an unknown person." However, when the police identified and questioned Mr. A’s connection, Mr. B confessed to committing the crime with Mr. A.

At the time of arrest, it was found that Mr. A was working as an administrative public official at a girls' high school in Gyeonggi Province. It is reported that he transferred to the school in 2018, after the crime. The school stated that they were completely unaware of Mr. A’s past crime and that he was not assigned to duties involving direct contact with students.

Mr. A is known to have admitted all charges during police questioning. The police detained Mr. A on charges of special rape and collected his DNA to request analysis from the National Forensic Service. The statute of limitations for special rape is 15 years, and the crime is established when a person commits sexual assault using a weapon or when two or more people together assault a person who is unable to resist.

The accomplice Mr. B is also reported to have worked as a school administrative public official and was sentenced to five years in prison for another sexual assault case. He is currently serving his sentence in prison.
