Rising Revenue of Com2uS Baseball Game Amid Domestic Pro Baseball Popularity
Game Launch Using NPB License Scheduled for Next Year
As the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) achieved record-breaking success with over 10 million spectators in the regular season, Com2us's baseball games have also gained popularity.
According to mobile index firm Mobile Index on the 15th, Com2us's service 'Com2us Pro Baseball V24' ranked 10th in revenue on the Apple App Store as of the 13th. Until the end of March, when this year's KBO regular season opened, the game was ranked within the top 20. As the excitement intensified, the revenue ranking rose steadily, and last month, when the competition for rankings was fierce, it even soared to 6th place. Compared to last October's lowest and highest revenue rankings of 51st and 17th respectively, this growth trend is remarkable.
Other baseball games by Com2us also benefited. 'Com2us Pro Baseball 2024' was ranked within the top 100 in revenue before the opening of this year's KBO regular season, but now it is moving within the top 30.
Com2us has shown special interest by releasing mobile baseball games since 2002. It has also acquired licenses from the KBO (Korea Baseball Organization) to use player information and more. It has obtained licenses from the U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB) as well, offering games such as 'MLB 9 Innings 24'.
Research and development (R&D) related to baseball games is also underway. According to Com2us's semi-annual report, research on advanced player face modeling using 3D scan data and replay features allowing various camera productions has been completed. Since April, research has been conducted on subdividing baseball bounces according to the ground surface of each baseball stadium, processing ball movement, and enhancing hitting results based on the ball's position.
Kim So-hye, a researcher at Hanwha Investment & Securities, evaluated, "The baseball lineup revenue in the (third quarter of this year) is understood to have maintained steady traffic, comparable to the peak season in the second quarter."
Com2us plans to release a new title next year using the Japanese professional baseball (NPB) license. The game, expected to be released in March next year under the name 'Rising,' is highly anticipated. Kim Hyun-yong, a researcher at Hyundai Motor Securities, said, "The most anticipated lineup for next year is undoubtedly Rising," adding, "Including this, sports game revenue is expected to surge from 180 billion KRW this year to 300 billion KRW next year, becoming a revenue source comparable to role-playing games (RPGs)."
