Oh Se-hoon "Myeong Tae-gyun's Claim is Self-Contradictory... He Will Pay the Price"

"Kim Jong-in, a Strong 'Unification Impossibility Advocate'
Even Asked for Separate Consent After Unification"

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon refuted the claim made by political broker Myung Tae-gyun that he helped Mayor Oh during the 2021 Seoul mayoral by-election candidate unification process, calling it a "self-contradiction."

On the 14th, Mayor Oh wrote on Facebook, "His claim is that he influenced the unification through former emergency committee chairman Kim Jong-in, but Kim was the strongest 'opponent of unification' at the time," adding, "I don't know to whom or what he said, but it is a self-contradiction that the person who supposedly advised on the unification strategy was the one who opposed unification the most."

He also reiterated that former Chairman Kim strongly opposed unification at the time. Mayor Oh said, "Even in camp meetings, former Chairman Kim repeatedly said that we could win even in a three-way race," and added, "After unification, I even had to visit former Chairman Kim separately to ask for his understanding."

Previously, Myung claimed in a media interview that he helped Mayor Oh's by-election campaign under the direction of former Chairman Kim. He also made claims through a Facebook post the day before, suggesting he influenced the unification process of the People Power Party's candidate for the Seoul mayoral by-election. At that time, Mayor Oh was elected after unifying with Assemblyman Ahn Cheol-soo (then a candidate of the People’s Party).

Mayor Oh explained about Myung, "During the 2021 Seoul mayoral by-election, former Assemblyman Kim Young-sun strongly urged me to meet him, but I judged him to be a strange and dangerous person and cut off relations," adding, "I did not bother to respond to his absurd claims until now, but I intend to correct them from now on."

He further stated, "Myung will ultimately be thoroughly investigated through a prosecution investigation and pay the price," and added, "Korean politics will develop only when this kind of person is prevented from gaining a foothold in the political arena."
