Handonghun: "Democratic Party, a Thief Harassing Police at the National Audit... Get a Grip"

"Humiliating Treatment if It Were the US," Opposition's Kim Min-seok
Han Dong-hoon: "If It Were America, Opposition Figures Would Be Charged with Obstruction of Justice"

Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, directly accused the Democratic Party of Korea on the 14th, saying, "The National Assembly audit is turning into a case of a thief harassing the police," calling it an act of judicial obstruction.

At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, Han said, "A certain Democratic Party lawmaker is trying to harass the police officers investigating him for election law violations by summoning them as witnesses to the audit, and last Friday, he pressured the police with self-questioning during the audit."

This remark referred to Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Sang-sik's questioning on the 11th during the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee's audit of the National Police Agency and the National Investigation Headquarters regarding an election law violation case involving relatives.

Han criticized Lee, saying, "Moreover, this person is a former police officer. It is utterly pathetic," and added, "Such behavior that harms the nation seems to be spreading throughout the Democratic Party. They need to come to their senses."

Han also fiercely attacked the Democratic Party for obstructing justice ahead of the sentencing trial of Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung scheduled for next month. Targeting Democratic Party Supreme Council member Kim Min-seok, Han pointed out, "Considering that he even talks about the United States, it seems the Democratic Party is now accepting the reality that the South Korean judiciary will inevitably convict Lee."

Kim Min-seok had claimed in a post on his social media (SNS) on the 11th, "If this were a jury trial in the United States, the continuous series of unfair indictments and humiliating treatment would be judged as a 'destruction of due process'."

He continued, "As someone qualified as a U.S. lawyer, I can confidently advise that if this were the United States, and the Democratic Party pressured the prosecution investigating the case, attacked the judiciary trying the case, and attempted to sway key witnesses as they are doing now, many members of the Democratic Party would already be in prison for obstruction of justice."
