Daegu Dong District Office Presents Disability Overcoming Award to Park Jaehyun and Kim Mihwa for Their Indomitable Spirit

Daegu Dong-gu District Office (District Mayor Yoon Seokjun) selected the recipients of the 15th Overcoming Disability Award and held an award ceremony at the Welfare Hanmadang event at Yulha Sports Park on the 12th.


The Daegu Dong-gu Overcoming Disability Award is presented to individuals who have achieved independence through indomitable will and contributed to the improvement of welfare for people with disabilities through dedicated service. The award is divided into the Overcoming Disability category and the Volunteer Service for the Disabled category. From August 1 to August 30, Daegu Dong-gu District Office accepted nominations for 30 days and selected the final recipients through a review by the judging committee.

In the Overcoming Disability category, Park Jaehyun (52), who acquired a physical disability due to an unexpected accident but continued to conduct research and take on challenges, was selected. He won the gold medal in the programming category at the Daegu Skills Competition for the Disabled and is currently working at the Korea Brain Research Institute.


In the Volunteer Service for the Disabled category, Kim Mihwa (59), who acquired a level 1 visual disability due to postoperative complications, was selected. She practices volunteer work such as providing massages to the elderly and teaches Braille to visually impaired individuals as a member of the Daegu Association of the Visually Impaired, Dong-gu Branch.


Yoon Seokjun, Mayor of Daegu Dong-gu District, said, "I sincerely congratulate the recipients who have overcome severe disabilities and practiced love for their neighbors through rehabilitation, and I am grateful that they have become excellent role models for the local community."
