Direct Mart Delivery Up 20%·Instant Delivery Up 50%
High Same-Day Orders on Public Holidays
Homeplus announced on the 14th that its online mall sales during the first week of October's bridge holiday period grew by 23% compared to the same period last year. During this period, sales of some items on the online mall increased up to sixfold.
According to Homeplus, from September 30th, when the bridge holiday began, to October 6th, sales of 'Mart Direct Delivery,' which delivers large mart products from Homeplus online at the desired date and time, increased by 20%, and sales of Homeplus Express's 'Immediate Delivery' rose by 50%. The number of customers also increased across the board: overall online (29%), Mart Direct Delivery (28%), and Immediate Delivery (36%).
Looking at the days of the week, the highest number of Mart Direct Delivery orders was on Thursday, October 3rd, which was National Foundation Day. Homeplus analyzed that demand surged on this holiday because it was the day when weekly promotions started, and customers could specify the delivery date even if they had outings or plans.
Immediate Delivery orders were also higher on the public holidays Tuesday (Armed Forces Day temporary holiday) and Thursday compared to weekdays. Customers who chose to rest during the bridge holidays used Immediate Delivery, and the number of ordering customers grew evenly across all age groups, including 20s and 30s customers (11%) and 40s and 50s customers (39%).
The most popular items during the bridge holiday period were food products. In particular, there was a clear preference for cost-effective products amid high inflation. In Mart Direct Delivery, sales increased in categories such as meat products for outings or camping (22%), canned goods (181%), meal replacements (47%), and sauces (84%). Notably, sales of Australian chilled grilled meat surged by 325%, and powdered curry (262%), canned seafood (246%), and retort pouch products (180%) also saw sales growth.
Thanks to the convenience of receiving orders within about an hour on the same day, Immediate Delivery orders increased among customers resting at home. Sales growth centered on fresh and frozen food categories such as meat products (104%), vegetables (78%), ice cream (177%), and eggs (68%). Within the meat category, smoked duck (468%), imported beef convenience packs (108%), and the steady seller 'Bomeokdwae' (309%) showed high sales growth rates. Sales of salad vegetables (171%), cabbage (175%), apples (128%), and bananas (118%) also increased.
Jo Hye-young, Director of Homeplus Online Marketing Headquarters, said, "The synergy between customer trends enjoying the holiday in various ways and the overwhelmingly convenient customized delivery service caused a surge in online shopping demand. We will continue to lead consumer trends by offering products and differentiated services that can only be experienced at Homeplus."
