"Historical Distortion" Followed by "Perverted Delusion" Criticism
"Strong Opposition to Placement of Recommended Books in Elementary, Middle, and High Schools"
Also Criticizing Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province
Jung Yura, the daughter of Choi Soon-sil (who changed her name to Choi Seo-won), one of the key figures in the Park Geun-hye administration's state corruption scandal, has been continuously criticizing the works of Han Kang, a novelist who won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
On the 13th, Jung Yura posted on her social media service (SNS), "I am absolutely against this book being placed in elementary, middle, and high school reading rooms," and quoted part of Han Kang's novel The Vegetarian. She said, "It is not even a harmful book for youth, so do not suspend or delete it," and added, "As a parent of elementary school students in Gyeonggi Province, I strongly oppose the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's opinion to place such a book as a recommended reading for elementary, middle, and high schools."
She continued, "I thought it was written by a pervert who has never seen reason in their life and has dirty fantasies just by reading the text," and argued, "If the logic is that it's okay because it's just a novel, then why can't we read erotic novels? They also have the author's thoughts and philosophy, so raise your children reading erotic novels to broaden their horizons." She then questioned, "Putting aside the hidden content of the book and everything else, are you guys sane to propose this as a recommended book for elementary, middle, and high schools? Are you in your right mind?"
Jung Yura also criticized Kim Dong-yeon, the governor of Gyeonggi Province. Earlier, on the 13th, Governor Kim revealed on his SNS that "During my time as a university president, I read Han Kang's The Vegetarian through a program where students and I read and discussed books."
On the 11th, Jung Yura also disparaged Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature, saying, "I am not sure if the Nobel Prize awarded for a historically distorted novel has any meaning."
