Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is set to embark on a business trip to the United States.

On the 13th, Gyeonggi Province announced that a delegation led by Governor Kim Dong-yeon will visit the eastern U.S. regions including Virginia and New York from the 15th to the 21st of this month to support the global expansion of startups and strengthen international exchange and cooperation.

This will be Governor Kim's third visit to the U.S., following trips in April last year and May this year.

The current visit was arranged upon the invitation of Jung Se-ju, chairman of NOOM, a Korean-American unicorn company in the healthcare sector, whom Governor Kim met at the Davos Forum in Switzerland this past January.

The provincial delegation will first sign an agreement with the United Korean Founders (UKF) in New York City to support mutual startup market entry between Gyeonggi Province and the North American region. UKF is a non-profit organization established by Korean-American entrepreneurs in North America to foster the startup ecosystem.

Governor Kim will also participate in the ‘2024 NYC Startup Summit’ hosted by UKF, delivering the opening address and promoting global investment attraction for startups based in Gyeonggi Province.

During the visit, investment agreements will be signed with Company A, a global leader in industrial safety certification, and Company B, a foreign-invested enterprise specializing in logistics center investment and development platforms.

Governor Kim will meet with the governors of Virginia and New York to discuss practical cooperation measures in advanced industry sectors.

With Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, he will discuss an innovation alliance in strategic industries such as startups and biotechnology and future growth sectors. With New York Governor Kathy Hochul, they will exchange views on economic cooperation measures including physical support for startups and human exchange.

A Gyeonggi Province official stated, "This visit aims to strengthen exchange and cooperation in the northeastern North American region, expand the economic territory of advanced industries, and attract investment. In particular, it is significant in creating global expansion opportunities for startups in the province."
