Paju City conducted a "Travel Path (A Path Where Women and Citizens Are Happy) Walking" education session on the 8th, involving about 60 citizens from groups such as the Unjeong 2-dong Community Leaders Association, the Veterans Association Women's Club, the Paju City Community Security Council, and the Paju City Family Center. On the 11th, Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced that on the 8th, it conducted the "Travel Path (A Path Where Women and Citizens Are Happy)" walking education at the cultural theater in the Yeonpung-ri red-light district area, with the participation of about 60 citizens including the Woonjeong 2-dong Community Leaders Council, the Veterans Women's Association, the Paju City Community Security Council, and the Paju City Family Center.
The "Travel Path Walking" education is a sex work awareness improvement program carried out with citizens since last year to close the red-light district. It forms consensus through citizen participation and spreads a sexually equal culture by combining sex work prevention education with a walking tour of the Yeonpung-ri red-light district area, maintaining steady interest from citizens.
During the sex work prevention education on that day, the importance of a safe community environment was emphasized by discussing anti-sex work policies from around the world and the human rights violations inherent in sex work. In the subsequent field education, citizens agreed on the necessity of closing the still-operating red-light district.
A citizen who attended the "Travel Path Walking" education said, "Through the sex work prevention education, I realized how socially serious the impact of sex work is," and added, "I hope the red-light district will be quickly reorganized to create a safe environment for children and citizens."
Paju City plans to continue sex work prevention campaigns and the "Travel Path Walking" education until December to foster a community atmosphere for closing the red-light district and to promote citizen participation activities.
