Triple, Nationwide Autumn Foliage Spot Recommendations
Odaesan and Seoraksan Peak in Mid-Month
Southern Regions Expected in Late to Mid-Late Month
It is the perfect season to enjoy the autumn foliage along with clear fall weather. This year, due to the prolonged heatwave, the first autumn leaves were observed six days later than usual, on the 4th, at Seoraksan. The metropolitan area and central regions are expected to see peak foliage around mid-month, while the southern regions will likely experience it in the latter half of the month. The travel and leisure industry has forecasted the peak foliage periods by region and selected representative spots ideal for viewing.
According to Interpark Triple’s travel application Triple and weather information provider Weatheri on the 12th, the peak foliage periods for the famous spots Odaesan and Seoraksan are expected to be on the 17th and 20th, respectively. Chiaksan is forecasted to have its most beautiful foliage on the 23rd, and Woraksan on the 28th.
In Seoul, the autumn leaves of Bukhansan are expected to reach their peak on the 28th. Other dates include Songnisan on the 30th, Gyeryongsan and Palgongsan on the 29th, Gayasan on the 27th, and Jirisan on the 23rd. Mudeungsan, Naejangsan, and Duryunsan are expected to peak on the 4th, 5th, and 11th of next month, respectively. Hallasan’s peak foliage is anticipated on the 28th.
Triple recommends Seoraksan National Park as the top spot for viewing autumn leaves. It offers various hiking courses with different difficulty levels and durations, and for those who find hiking challenging, taking the cable car to enjoy the foliage is also a good option.
Juwangsan National Park in Cheongsong, Gyeongbuk, is also recognized as a famous autumn foliage destination. Among several routes, the Juwang Valley course, which consists of gentle paths, allows visitors to take in the stunning views of Juwangsan’s cliffs, Yongchu Waterfall, and the autumn leaves all at once.
Naejangsan National Park in Jeongeup, Jeonbuk, is another popular spot for autumn travelers. Besides the foliage tunnel path that can be enjoyed while walking, the scenery surrounding Uhwa Pavilion, which stands in the middle of a clear pond, is also beautiful.
In the metropolitan area, Hwadam Forest in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, is gaining popularity as an autumn foliage destination. The forest contains thousands of plant species and over 480 types of maple trees. Visitors must make a reservation through the official website to view the foliage. Jeondeungsa Temple in Ganghwa-gun, Incheon, and Homyeong Lake Park in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do, are also great places near Seoul to enjoy the autumn leaves. In Seoul, Seoul Forest, which has recently attracted many visitors, offers plenty to see. The ginkgo tree path, mirror pond, and central lake harmonize beautifully, and visitors can rent bicycles to explore the park’s interior.
