Academic Publisher Go Deokhwan, Chairman of Samyoungsa, Awarded the Silver Crown Cultural Medal for Publishing 2,000 Scholarly Books

29 Recipients Awarded Government Honors for Contributions to Publishing Culture Development

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 11th that it will award government honors to individuals who have contributed to the development of publishing culture in celebration of Book Day. This year, a total of twenty-nine people will be honored, including one recipient of the Silver Crown Cultural Medal, two recipients of the Presidential Citation, two recipients of the Prime Minister's Citation, and twenty-four recipients of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Citation.

The Silver Crown Cultural Medal will be awarded to Go Deok-hwan, chairman of Samyoungsa Publishing. He entered the publishing industry in 1960 and has published approximately 2,000 academic books over about 65 years, recognized for his efforts in fostering a healthy publishing ecosystem.


The Presidential Citation will be awarded to Lee Sang-yong, CEO of Cheonga Publishing, and Yoon Se-min, professor at Gyeongin Women's University. The Prime Minister's Citation will be awarded to Joo Jung-kwan, CEO of Bookstory, and the late Lee Min-woo, former CEO of Hangil Bookstore. Additionally, twenty-four individuals who have contributed to the development of publishing culture through publishing and distributing quality books and pioneering new publishing markets will receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Citation.


The award ceremony will be held on the same day at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, hosted by the Korea Publishers Association as part of the 'Book Day' commemorative event. Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoon In-chon said, "I extend my congratulations and respect to the awardees who have worked hard for the development of publishing culture during difficult times." He added, "Even amid changes in the digital environment, books remain the foundation of spiritual culture and the source of the cultural industry," promising, "We will support 'K-Book' to lead the growth of the cultural industry."
