Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 11th that it held the ‘Dongjak Education Special Zone Proclamation Ceremony’ at the Kim Young-sam Library in Sangdo-dong the day before, declaring the vision and goals for the designation of the city’s first education development special zone.
Currently, Dongjak-gu is experiencing rapid changes in the educational environment, such as increased demand for new school establishments and facility complexification due to redevelopment and reconstruction, and a growing number of middle-aged and older adults seeking certification in the Noryangjin academy district.
Accordingly, the district is promoting the designation of an education development special zone to establish a systematic support system reflecting the district’s characteristics through cooperation among local governments, education offices, and schools, and to provide an excellent educational environment.
The proclamation ceremony was attended by about 250 people, including Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, Kim Young-hwa, Superintendent of Dongjak-Gwanak Office of Education, members of the National Assembly, city councilors and district councilors, university presidents and school principals in the district, representatives of educational institutions, daycare center directors, students, and parents.
The district set the vision of “Dongjak, an educational city leading future society!” and proclaimed four major policy goals: establishing the best educational infrastructure, building an education ecosystem for each life cycle, providing educational opportunities to nurture future talents, and establishing a virtuous cycle system linking education and jobs.
It also announced four promotion tasks and 55 implementation plans, including prenatal education (pregnancy and childbirth), building an integrated care system (infants and children), supporting region-led education reform (elementary, middle, and high school), and strengthening the linkage between education and jobs (youth and middle-aged).
Going forward, the district stated that it will focus on enhancing public education competitiveness and creating a quality educational environment by promoting projects such as the construction of the Kiwoom Integrated Support Center, the establishment of Heukseok High School, and the Glocal Insight Tour for job seekers, sparing no effort to achieve the designation of the education development special zone.
Mayor Park Il-ha said, “Starting with this proclamation ceremony, we will implement various policies so that Dongjak-gu can become an educational city leading future society,” adding, “We will transform into the Dongjak Education Special Zone that provides high-quality education to all residents.”
