Frieze London, held at Regent's Park in London on the 9th (local time), is the original event of the Frieze Art Fair, which has expanded to Seoul following New York and Los Angeles, and will continue until the 13th.
This event features Frieze London, focusing on contemporary works, and 'Frieze Masters,' showcasing antiques and works by masters before the 2000s, running simultaneously.
This year, about 160 galleries from 43 countries are participating in Frieze London, and about 130 galleries from 26 countries in Frieze Masters, with several Korean galleries operating multiple booths.
Korean galleries have received some pre-orders and are reported to have attracted strong interest from visitors from the first day on-site.
Johyun Gallery, participating in both Frieze London and Masters, is presenting works by Nam June Paik, Park Seo-bo, Kwon Dae-seop, Kim Jong-hak, and others. Amid ongoing inquiries about the works, one piece was confirmed sold for $157,000 (approximately 210 million KRW).
Gana Art set up a solo booth for Kim Ku-rim at Masters. Frieze requested to showcase Kim Ku-rim's works from the 1970s first, and although most of the works are not for sale, those listed for sale have already been traded.
Alongside this, International Gallery and Arario Gallery also exhibited several works by Korean artists.
Moreover, many foreign galleries are introducing works by Korean artists. The French gallery Perrotin displayed works by Kim Hoon-kyu, who is active in London, and the American gallery Lehmann Maupin filled their space with paintings and sculptures by Kim Yoon-shin.
A gallery official explained, "We brought a variety of works spanning different periods," adding, "We also plan to hold an exhibition in London next year."
