Goyang-si Launches Full-Scale Sewer Pipeline Technical Inspection in 2024

10 Billion KRW Invested in Technical Inspection of 179km Sewer Pipelines in Ilsan, Byeokje, Samsong, and Nanji

Goyang Special City held a kickoff meeting for the "2024 Goyang City Sewer Pipeline Technical Diagnosis" on the 7th.

Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 10th that it held a kickoff meeting for the '2024 Goyang City Sewer Pipeline Technical Diagnosis' on the 7th and will officially begin the technical diagnosis of sewer pipelines.

The technical diagnosis of sewer pipelines is a legal requirement under Article 20, Paragraph 1 of the Sewerage Act, which mandates that sewer pipelines that have been in operation for more than five years since facility completion must undergo a diagnosis every five years.

The city established a five-year plan in 2020 for sewer pipelines within Goyang City and has been promoting the technical diagnosis of sewer pipelines annually and in phases.

In 2020, technical diagnosis was conducted on 102 km, in 2021 on 208 km, in 2022 on 204 km, and in 2023 on 151 km of sewer pipelines. In 2024, with a budget of 1 billion KRW, the city will promote the technical diagnosis of approximately 179 km of sewer pipelines in the Ilsan, Byeokje, Samsong, and Nanji sewage treatment areas.

The main tasks of the sewer pipeline technical diagnosis include flow and water quality surveys, infiltration surveys, CCTV inspections, and unidentified water investigations to analyze problems and establish improvement measures through on-site investigations. This forms the foundation for subsequent aged sewer pipeline maintenance projects.

A Goyang City official stated, “We will do our best to ensure that citizens can continue to live comfortable and stable daily lives through the technical diagnosis and maintenance of sewer pipelines, which are fundamentally necessary for human living.”
