The Uijeongbu City Public Health Center in Gyeonggi Province (Director Jang Yeon-guk) announced on the 10th that it will conduct simultaneous vaccinations for the 2024-2025 seasonal flu (influenza) and COVID-19 to prevent the spread of respiratory infectious diseases.
Starting from the 11th, free vaccinations will be administered sequentially to seniors aged 65 and older (born on or before December 31, 1959) at 198 designated vaccination medical institutions in the area. Free COVID-19 vaccinations will also be provided from the same day for immunocompromised individuals aged six months and older, as well as residents of infection-vulnerable facilities.
To ensure safe vaccinations and prevent crowding on the first day, the vaccination schedule will be staggered and carried out until April 30 of next year.
Specifically, ▲ those aged 75 and older (born on or before December 31, 1949) can receive vaccinations starting from the 11th, ▲ those aged 70 and older (born between January 1, 1950, and December 31, 1954) from the 15th, and ▲ those aged 65 and older (born between January 1, 1955, and December 31, 1959) from the 18th.
Regarding influenza (flu), free vaccinations for medically vulnerable groups will be supported from the 22nd until December 31. The medically vulnerable groups include Uijeongbu citizens aged 14 to 64 (born between 1960 and 2010) who are basic livelihood security recipients (living and medical), persons with disabilities, and national veterans (including themselves and their first-priority survivors). The registered address must be in Uijeongbu City, and individuals must bring identification and supporting documents (basic livelihood security certificate, disability registration card, national veterans registration card, etc.) to visit designated vaccination medical institutions in the area.
For detailed information about vaccinations, inquiries can be made to the city public health center’s vaccination office.
Director Jang Yeon-guk stated, “To prepare for the winter respiratory infectious disease season, it is recommended to get vaccinated preferably between October and December,” adding, “Especially, active participation in vaccination by high-risk groups such as seniors aged 65 and older, immunocompromised individuals, and members of infection-vulnerable facilities is important.”
Meanwhile, domestic and international studies have confirmed the effectiveness and safety of simultaneous vaccination for influenza and COVID-19. Major countries worldwide, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan, are also regularizing annual simultaneous vaccinations for high-risk groups.
