Ministry of Land Certification Report Achieves Over 99% Accuracy
Traffic Planning Possible Using U+ Smart Intersection
LG Uplus announced on the 10th that its 'U+ Smart Intersection' system, which applies artificial intelligence (AI) technology, achieved an accuracy rate of over 99% and received the highest grade evaluation from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The highest grade evaluation received by LG Uplus’s ‘U+ Smart Intersection’ is from the basic performance assessment in the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Smart Intersection System (SIS) category, conducted by the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology.
The ITS basic performance assessment is a certification test that verifies whether the ITS equipment, systems, and services of project implementers meet the standards set by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. To receive the highest grade, an accuracy rate of 95% or higher is required.
U+ Smart Intersection uses AI technology to identify real-time information such as traffic volume by lane and direction, waiting queues, travel direction, and vehicle types, and transmits this data to control centers managed by the government or local governments. When CCTV installed on the road sends road footage to the server, U+ Smart Intersection analyzes it and sends accurate road information to the control center. U+ Smart Intersection calculates vehicle types, locations, speeds, and more in real time.
The government or local governments can establish traffic plans based on the information analyzed and provided by U+ Smart Intersection. For example, after identifying the time periods when traffic volume is concentrated in a specific lane, they can extend the driving (blue) signal longer than usual. They can also take traffic safety measures such as changing signal systems or guiding detours based on accident situation data occurring on site.
LG Uplus also equipped the 'U+ Smart Intersection' system with ITS camera field-of-view correction technology. This technology automatically detects and corrects any misalignment of the field of view caused by wind or vibration using AI.
LG Uplus plans to apply the ITS camera field-of-view correction technology to various ITS projects, including future autonomous driving pilot projects.
Jeon Young-seo, head of LG Uplus Corporate Service Development Lab, said, "By equipping U+ Smart Intersection with ITS camera field-of-view correction technology, we have secured a differentiation from general smart intersections," adding, "It is meaningful to have received the highest grade with over 99% accuracy from the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, the official certification body for ITS performance evaluation."
Meanwhile, LG Uplus also received the highest grade evaluation last year for the U+ Vehicle Detector and U+ Incident Detector.
