On the 8th, Kwon posted on Instagram, “Before expressing my joy, I want to first offer my apologies and gratitude,” adding, “Although I am not young in age, I think I acted and thought immaturely.” He then mentioned Edward Lee, Triple Star, and Cooking Ddora-i in turn, saying, “When these three remained at the end of the ‘Tofu Hell’ mission, I thought they were all tough opponents, and to avoid feeling intimidated, I acted more arrogantly.” He bowed his head, saying, “Watching myself on the show, I was arrogant and lacked a lot. It became an opportunity for reflection.”
Regarding his statement to Edward Lee, “I will crush you thoroughly,” Kwon also apologized again, calling it “thoughtless.” He explained, “Since it was the last dish when everyone was exhausted, my intention was to encourage not to give up until the end and to keep going,” but added, “It was a very arrogant and careless remark, different from my intention.”
Finally, he said, “I think I was able to win by chance, gathering all the luck of my life in the final,” and added, “I want to express my gratitude to the hardworking production staff, the 99 chefs who participated, and everyone who congratulated and supported me.”
Earlier that afternoon, the final episode of “Black and White Chef” was released, where “Black Spoon” Kwon defeated “White Spoon” Edward Lee to win the prize money of 300 million won. The two faced off in the final battle with the mission theme “Dish Named After Oneself,” and Kwon was unanimously chosen as the final winner by judges Baek Jong-won and Ahn Seong-jae.
Released on the 17th of last month, “Black and White Chef” is a culinary class war program where “Black Spoon” chefs, who are praised for their excellent taste, challenge South Korea’s top star chefs, the “White Spoon.” Since its release, “Black and White Chef” has gained global popularity, ranking first in the Netflix Global Top TV (Non-English) category for two consecutive weeks.
