An Australian airline sparked controversy by screening an adult film onboard during a flight. Because the adult film was played simultaneously on all monitors, passengers were forced to watch explicit content.

Multiple local media outlets reported on the 5th (local time) that a technical issue caused the seat monitors on Qantas flight GQ59 from Sydney, Australia to Haneda, Japan to malfunction, leading to this incident.
Due to the monitor malfunction, passengers could not select movies individually and were only able to watch the same film on all monitors. As a result, the flight attendants chose the movie "Dadio," which some customers had requested. The film "Dadio" is an adult movie in which the female lead engages in a relationship with a male taxi driver while riding a taxi from the airport to her home. It received an R rating in the United States. The R rating means that viewers under 17 years old cannot watch the film without a parent or adult guardian.

A passenger on the flight said, "The movie contained explicit nude and sexual scenes. All monitors onboard simultaneously showed these erotic scenes. Passengers could not turn off their monitors or reduce the screen brightness." The discomfort continued even without wearing headphones. Since the film repeatedly showed scenes of explicit conversations via text messages, passengers were continuously exposed to embarrassing content even without headphones. Families traveling with minor children were especially outraged.
Qantas attempted to address the issue by allowing passengers who did not want to watch the film to turn off their monitors, but this effort also failed. Eventually, the movie was changed to one suitable for children, but the adult film had already been playing for an hour.
Qantas acknowledged the mistake, stating, "It was inappropriate to screen this onboard. We sincerely apologize for the discomfort caused to our passengers," and added, "We are investigating how the adult film was played."
