Gwangju City, 'Asia Traditional Culture Exchange Day'

An event where traditional cultural and artistic performances, play experiences, and exhibitions from Korea, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan can be enjoyed in one place will be held in Gwangju.

Gwangju City announced on the 9th that it will hold the event "Connecting Hearts through Tradition," part of the "2024 Asia Traditional Culture Exchange Day," at Bitgoeul Art Space at 4 p.m. on the 11th.

Planned in line with the National Asia Culture Center's "2024 Asia Culture Week," this event features the Kyrgyzstan National Manas Theater and the Kazakhstan National Academy Goryeo Theater.

In particular, with cooperation from the Gwangju Goryeoin Village, a traditional culture exhibition has been organized, adding significance as marriage immigrants participate as interpreters and coordinators, and Kyrgyzstan expatriates and Goryeo immigrants collaborate.

Traditional games from the three countries such as Kazakhstan's Ashik Atu, Kyrgyzstan's Toguz Korgool, and Korea's Yutnori, Tuho, and Gonggi will be showcased, along with exhibitions of lifestyle crafts including felt handmade products and Korean regional master’s Gyubang crafts. In the small theater, an exchange performance among the three countries titled "Connecting Hearts through Tradition" will take place.

Kim Seong-bae, Director of Culture and Sports of Gwangju City, said, "This event will be a meaningful occasion for exchanging Asian traditional cultures, with participation not only from cultural artists of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Gwangju but also from the Goryeoin Village."
